"AFTER THE SELECTION"

This was a site specific project from 2nd year. A totally self directed Piece. my stimulus was the folktale of bluebeard with elements taken from the Trevor Hardy murders in the 70's. No images from the model box are up yet but the text from the story board is bellow. More images and links will be added.
1.
The audience enter the top of a house. Slightly feeling like there inside a dolls house. It’s very brightly coloured and has a 1970’s feel. 3 rooms are on the top floor. In each room a man, topless and very skinny paces around. A slight echo of a record player can be heard. The audience have time to look around and soak up the atmosphere. It should feel slightly uncomferble.

After the audience have made there way down the stairs and to the bottom floor they see three more rooms. All containing the same man, pacing up and down doing things that relate to the room itself. I.e. in the kitchen, sharpening knifes. In the toilet, washing blood from his hands. Etc. The environment is still similar to a dolls house.

The audience turn the corner to see an entrance covered with butcher’s plastic sheets. Through the sheets the audience can see a faint flickering light. The room beyond and sheets is very dark and cold. The audience can still slightly hear the record player in the background.

People entre through the covers and are plunged into darkness. The only light source being a single flickering light and a super 8 projector flickering images on to a large screen at the back of the room. There are hollow boxes blocking the view, each box containing items taken from the murders victims. I.e. hairbrushes, clothing, pictures etc. the flickering images at the back represent memories “stolen” from the victims. There is meat hanging from hooks in the middle of the space dripping on to a stainless steal floor. The floor has become slightly discoloured and sticky from the blood. It feels slightly like a massive walk in freezer. Very cold and dry.

After the audience have slowly worked their way through the main room the come underneath the projector screen and are confronted by a pile of what look like wrapped up parts of a human in blood stained brown paper. The room beyond that has a light on. A lot brighter than the main room, shimmering steal flooring catches their attention. they are brought out of the darkness.
